INTRODUCTION

Cloud computing is the evolution of a variety of technologies that have come together to alter an organization’s approach to building out an IT infrastructure. Just like the internet boom years ago, there is nothing fundamentally new about any of the technologies today that make up cloud computing; many of these technologies that make the web existed for decades when Netscape came along and made them accessible; also most of the technologies that make up cloud computing have been around for years. The adoption of cloud computing is a strategic business approach to deliver, deploy and implement efficient, and inexpensive computing technologies for business to ensure business agility, mobility, innovation, cost savings and business flexibility.
Cloud computing in its natural sense, is the deployment of IT services and infrastructure through the internet. Cloud platforms allow business to rent multiple servers and deploy their application through these servers (internet). It shortens the time from sketching out application architecture to actual deployment. Cloud computing incorporates virtualization, on-demand deployment, internet delivery of service, and open source software. The shift to cloud computing recently has created a drastic change as within the IT community as most organizations are constantly redesigning their IT infrastructure to meet the current business platform. It is no secret that cloud provides agility, innovation, flexibility and efficiency. Perhaps the biggest benefit of cloud computing over building your own infrastructure has nothing to do with technology, but financial. The “pay for what you use” model of cloud computing is significantly cheaper for companies than the “pay for everything up front” model of internal IT. However, there are serious data security and privacy concern with the adoption of cloud infrastructure. Entrusting your companies sensitive data in the hands of a third party not only is it risky but can ruin the entire organization. To successfully utilize the cloud platform, user should be oriented on proper handling of information to avoid data being compromised.
